Bukit Lawang Orang Utan Trail (INA)

Introduction

3rd edition of this unique event during which runners can meet up with orang utans in their natural habitat. Bukit Lawang Orang Utan Trail offers a 50km race course for Asia Trail Master Championship ranking points.

Bukit Lawang is a riverside village a few hours’ drive away from Sumatra’s capital city Medan in Indonesia. It is known as a beautiful boutique travel destination for hikers and families wishing to catch a glimpse of the orang utan.

The 50k race course is kind of split in two parts: a first runable section of some 20km, followed by a technical jungle part with challenging sections as you enter the orang utan’s living area. Runners therefore need to balance their efforts, and also be aware of the heat & humidity in North Sumatra during the day.

Less ambitious runners can also go for the shorter categories of 25km and 7km.

Accommodation in Bukit Lawang is guesthouse and homestay-style, similar to what we have at the Cordillera Mountain Ultra in Philippines and Vietnam Jungle Marathon. There’s also a more upmarket hotel option, which comes recommended as well. There’s event busses carrying participants from Medan to Bukit Lawang.
